Normal Square

Couple One (red) have their backs to the caller
Couple Two (blue) is to the Right of Couple One
Couple Three (green) is across from Couple One, facing the caller
Couple Four (yellow) is to the Left of Couple One

Men (squares) are on the Left side of each partnership
Ladies (circles) are on the Right
Facing direction is indicated by small black dots (their noses)

Head Couples: Couples One and Three
Side Couples: Couples Two and Four

Normal Circle

All dancers are facing into the center of the Circle.
In this example, every Lady is with her Partner.

Common Moves:

– Allemande Left

Alamo Circle

The Men are facing into the Circle and the Ladies are facing out.  The reverse is also possible.
In this example, every Lady is with her partner.

Common Moves:
– Balance
– Swing Thru

Lines Facing In

All dancers are facing into the square.

Common Moves:
– Forward and Back
– Pass Thru

Lines Facing Out

All dancers are facing out of the square.

Common Moves:
– Wheel Around
– Wheel and Deal

Two-Faced Lines

In each line, one couple is facing out of the square and one couple is facing in. 

Common Moves:

Ocean Waves

Alternate dancers in the Waves are facing in opposite directions.  Each Man is holding a Lady’s Right Hand with his Right Hand (“Right Handed” Ocean Waves).

– Boys run

Eight Chain Thru (Box)

End couples are facing in.  Center couples are facing out.  Each dancer is facing their Corner.

Common Moves:
– Allemande Left
– Right and Left Thru
– Touch a Quarter

Double Pass Thru

All dancers are facing in.

Completed Double Pass Thru

All dancers are facing out.
